Artist Name: Janine Cairns Micheal
Janine Cairns Michael An Invercargill native, Janine Cairns Michael has been creating with and stone since the early 90’s. Her love of nature, both above and below the water, has influenced the shape and textures that characterise her jewellery. Like the human fingerprint, no two pieces of Janine’s jewellery are exactly alike. The patterns are embossed onto the metal using a paper template, which is used only once and then discarded. The earthen elements have been gathered from lakes, riverbanks and beaches around southern New Zealand. Janine loves hands-on creative projects – whether working with clay, metal or fibre. When not engaged in metalsmithing you may find her dying wool for her latest primitive rug-hooking endeavour. She also enjoys travelling to tropical locations to scuba dive and take underwater photographs. Her photos have appeared in a number of international books and magazines.
