PETER CHATFIELD My name is Peter ‘Chats’ Chatfield. Over the years I have had many varied vocations, most requiring very high levels of dexterity and original design concepts. These have included jewellery manufacturer, pattern maker, boat builder and detailer, and D.I.E designer using CAD CAM. My wife and I moved to the South Island for a lifestyle change. This island is the home of pounamu (jade) and it has rekindled my interest in this stone. I designed and made a diamond saw combination grinder, acquired some small pieces of jade and proceeded to learn about the grain and nature of the stone. The pieces I made were well accepted and this encouraged me to progress further. My preference is to carve contemporary or very stylised pieces. I love the warm velvet feel of pounamu and it’s deep spiritualised presence. I hope it brings you the same feelings of peace and tranquillity
