Artist Name: Rikland
Richard Harry Land is the fourth generation of artists in his family. His father, Christopher Land, was the youngest student to win the prestigious "Five Year Scholarship" to the Royal College of Art in London. As a child Rik watched his father work on silverware designs and sculpture for the British Royal Family at Windsor Castle and he could not have asked for a better teacher. In the 1960's Rik moved to New Zealand establishing a fashion and design company "Rikland Enterprises Limited". The Business flourished and became a major national player in the fashion design of the seventies and soon became recognised as a major photographic company as well. The aim of his photography was to capture the sensuality and spirituality of the female form, a creative focus that further developed as he began to experiment with sculpture in the early nineties. His initial works in clay, stone, marble and plaster were not producing the results he desired, and finally his artistic aspirations found an outlet in the classical medium of bronze.
