Artist Name: Gareth James
Gareth James is one of New Zealand's most proficient blacksmiths and a major craftsman. His work is now sought after by connoisseurs of fine hand forgings world wide. Gareth has stuck to the pure methods - he heats to near white hot and hammers great chunks of steel and iron to create intricate designs. Cold punches make holes in hot metal, rivets and collars join separate pieces and several dripping hot steel bars become one under the hammer as they are forge welded together. There is a unique New Zealand character inherent in all his original works that has put Gareth in the forefront when it comes to ironwork. Gareth is sought after as guest artist at society exhibitions and has recieved numerous prizes in various shows around the country. From the Leatherhead Museum in Britain to private collections all over the world Gareth James blacksmithing is considered to be among the best there is.
