Artist Name: Peter O'Hagan
Peter O'Hagan is certainly among New Zealand's most successful artists. He is renowned for his spontaneous, vibrant paintings in watercolour and gouache. Most recently he has gained recognition as "artist in residence" at the prestigious Champagne House Verve Cliquot. In July 1998 Peter travelled to France where he was invited to make his base at the Widow Cliquot's historic Manoir de Verzy near Reims. Peter's early career as an architect and his work as a curator for the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, together with his love for the "finer things" in life are all elements which influence his painting. Favourite subjects are Lavish European interiors, still lifes and brightly coloured outdoor scenes. As a student, Peter recieved tuition from notable New Zealand artists Patrick Hanly and Agnes Wood. He has exhibited aboard the famous linear Queen Elizabeth II, and his exploration of Pacific to European syles and subjects met critical acclaim when shown in French Exhibitions. His paintings is now fueled with renewed vigour and flair since his recovery from the devastating bush fires in February 2003 that completely destroyed his home and studio in Canberra. Peter O'Hagan's 2004 painting series "Fine New Zealand Wines Abroad", combines three of his great passions; travel, the fine wines of New Zealand and his favourite French vineyards.
