Des Robertshaw Des Robertshaw is an extremely talented artist whose likeable works are extremely strong and bold, no matter what scale he works in. Robertshaw has established himself as having a uniquely graphic style being both strong and seductive. His powerfully outlined figures inhabiting architectural spaces and simplified landscapes show this power and strength. Robertshaw derives the inspiration for his boldly conceived and dramatically executed paintings and sculpture in part from the unique landscape of New Zealand, where he makes his home. Seeking, as he has written, “to combine elements of the human form with the land”, he creates simplified compositions with powerful impact. The predominating blacks refer to a barbarousness and spontaneity, which has a long lineage in Western, art making. Des Robertshaw is represented in collections in New York, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. He is also published and distributed internationally by Lewis Publishers, an American publisher of fine art prints. It is Bonz’s great pleasure to be able to exhibit Des’s work exclusively here in Queenstown.
